Dogura Anglican Diocese
Father Tennyson Bogar, currently Vicar General and Dean of St John's Cathedral in Port Moresby Diocese, has been elected to be the next bishop of the Dogura Diocese. The consecration will be held on Sunday 29th June 2014 in the Cathedral Church of SS Peter & Paul, Dogura, Milne Bay province.

New Mobile Company
The government has awarded a third mobile phone licence worth more than US$260 million to a Dubai-based multinational firm, Awal Telecommunications Corporation Limited. Their entry into the PNG market brings to three the number of mobile phone operators in the country.

Japan PM to Visit
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will visit Papua New Guinea and New Zealand during his trip to Australia in early July. It will be the first time in 29 years that a Japanese prime minister is visiting PNG since Yasuhiro Nakasone came in 1985, and the first time in 12 years that a Japanese prime minister has visited New Zealand since Junichiro Koizumi's trip in 2002.

Minimum Wage Rise
PNG employers have told the Minimum Wages Board that they support a pay increase of up to six per cent. Unions are pushing for a gradual increase in the minimum wage of two Kina or 76 cents Australian an hour over the next three years.

Gender-based Violence
The Government says it is taking the lead to eliminate what it calls gender-based violence. Government agencies including the Department for Community Development and Religion are working together to develop a new national strategy to tackle violence.

The June issue of Outside Magazine carries an article written by Karl Hoffman about the recent attack (last September) of 19 local porters and overseas trekkers along along the Black Cat Track in Morobe province.

Coffee Industry
The PNG Coffee Corporation says a co-ordinated approach is needed to improve marketing the industry in Europe. Colin Smith from the European specialist coffee association has told stakeholders in Goroka that PNG needs to have a stronger presence at trade fairs and exhibitions in Europe to be competitive and create demand.

Foreign Affairs an Immigration Minister Rimbink Pato says he will choose which refugees resettle in the country, according to an Australian media report. Pato's statement contradicted Australia's assertion that all genuine refugees detained on Manus Island would be resettled within PNG.

Travel Air Suspended
Budget airline, Travel Air or maybe better known as Mangi Lo Peles, has been suspended indefinitely by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority for not observing a notice banning flights into Buka on Bougainville during a landowners' dispute.

PNGSDP Asset Sale Probe
The government is to set up a Commission of Inquiry into the sale of PNG Sustainable Development Program Limited's assets. The Prime Minister Peter O'Neill is reported as saying the company's board has no authority to sell off assets, describing the planned move not only illegal but criminal in nature.

A four-metre saltwater crocodile has grabbed a boy while he was fishing with his parents at Siloura River in Gulf province.

A Catholic priest and a lay minister have been killed in PNG. Father. Gerry Maria Inau and Benedict, a lay extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist, were working in the remote regions of Bereina diocese, when they were killed on the 4th of May.

LNG Shipments
Oil Search expects to start liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipments to Asia shortly with the initial cargo sold on the spot market. The process to load the first LNG tanker has begun, with a decision on when the ship will leave to be made over the next few days, Managing Director Peter Botten has said from Port Moresby. The first gas is expected to go to Tokyo Electric Power Company.

Rural Food Security
The National Agricultural Research Institute (NARI) is establishing resource centres around the country as part of efforts to adopt new climate change strategies. Mouth Cancer Spreads
Cancer, in all forms, is rapidly spreading in the country with cancer of the mouth now the second most common cancer among Papua New Guineans. It makes up 15 percent of all cancer hospital admissions in PNG.
