Pacific Games
Australia has selected its first group of athletes to compete at this year's Pacific Games in Port Moresby.
Australia and New Zealand have been invited to contest the Pacific Games for the first time this year, in four sports: sailing, tae kwon do, weightlifting and rugby sevens.

Pacific Games Relay
The Pacific Games Relay has passed through Tufi in Oro province. The Relay was welcomed by four different Tufi sing sing groups upon their arrival at Tufi airport with one group performing a wild dance around the airport. The relay has visited a number of World War II sites, including Kokoda, Isurava and Buna, in Oro Province.

Commemorative Coins and Notes
The Bank of PNG has released commemorative coins and banknotes to celebrate the Pacific Games and PNG's 40th anniversary. The 10 Kina banknote and 50 Toea coin will commemorate the Pacific Games and the K20 banknote will mark PNG's 40th independence.
The K10 note has an overprint of the Pacific Games logo, while one side of the 50 toea coin has the Games Logo, in colour. The K20 note, will have PNG's signatory Bird of Paradise emblem embedded on the note, commemorating 40 years of independence.

Hunters Beat Townsville
The PNG Hunters have defeated the Townsville Blackhawks 22 - 16 at the Jack Manski Oval in round 11 of the Intrust Super Cup. This is the Hunters fifth win in a row.

Bougainville Wary of Mining
Bougainvilleans, at the grassroots level, fear a return to large-scale mining on the island will lead to similar forms of inequity that was shown when the mine was operating in the past. In the past only 1.4 percent of the estimated two billion dollars in revenue went to local landowners.

REDD+ National Capacity
The PNG Government has welcomed the next chapter in building its capacity for Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation (REDD+). The new Forest Carbon Partnership Facility project launched by the Office of Climate Change and Development and the United Nations Development Programme in PNG will focus on developing national REDD+ strategy and set out the country's vision for REDD+ implementation.

Polish Missionary Shot
A Polish missionary in Papua New Guinea has had to have emergency surgery after being shot in a recent attack in the country. The missionary was flown by helicopter from his parish in Timbunke to Madang hospital for treatment.

Tribal Clash Injuries
A man has an arrow lodged in his eye socket after a tribal fight in the suburbs of Port Moresby. Police said 12 people were injured by arrows during a clash between rival ethnic groups from Chimbu and Goroka, who have now reside in Port Moresby. The clash occurred about a kilometre from the Jackson's international airport.

Over 50 rascals have apologised to the city of Popondetta and promised to seek better lives. Community leaders and members congratulated the young men on their decisions and encouraged them to support one another as they left behind high-risk behaviours.

TB Treatment
The treatment of tuberculosis (TB), a highly infectious but curable disease that leads to fever, fatigue, chronic cough and possibly death if left untreated, requires swallowing many tablets over a long period of time.
TB in PNG is a national emergency. PNG has the highest rate of tuberculosis in the Pacific region, where 60 percent of new cases originate, according to the World Health Organization.

Coffee drinkers increasingly don't want to be implicated in exploiting the Third World and the planet so are interested in their daily dose of coffee being "green".
