The United States Marines Task Force Koa Moana is providing training for the PNG military police regarding security operations for the 2018 APEC meeting. The areas of training are personal check-points, motorcade security operations, personnel control, crowd control and general police functions

Hiritano Highway Accident
An accident along the Hiritano Highway has left over 20 injured, with two believed to have died when a Public Motor Vehicle (PMV) heading towards Kerema collided head on with a semi-trailer. The injured passengers were rushed to Port Moresby for treatment.

Exxon Denies Police Hire Claim
The multi-national oil and gas company running PNG's LNG project denies a suggestion that it hires police to guard its operations. Exxon says it plays no role in the conduct of police operations, and nor does it "hire" police or employ "LNG security police".

LNG Landowners Threaten Violence
Landowners at PNG's biggest resources project are threatening to create "chaos" if the PNG Government does not honour a deal to give them equity. The operator of the PNG LNG project, ExxonMobil PNG, declined to comment.

Off the record in PNG rumours are swirling around the reasons for the sacking of CEO Bob Cutmore. Talk is that Cutmore was ditched for more political than performance reasons, as was stated. The CEO was apparently on the verge of unearthing some alleged dodgy dealings during an audit, so the board decided to ditch him pronto.

Rabaul Queen Trial
The PNG government has made available $US 230,000 to progress the MV Rabaul Queen ferry disaster trial. The judge had summoned top officials to explain the non-allocation of funds to the police and Public Prosecutor's Office to ensure the completion of the trial.

Voter Registration Begins
Enrolment of eligible voters in the National Capital District in preparation for the 2017 national election officially commenced today. More than 800 enrolment agents will be out in the 12 wards in the capital city to update the NCD Roll for the next 14 days. City residents are to look out for enrolment teams who will be visiting their areas during this period of time to check their names and details on the Roll and register.

Goroka ITI
The Eastern Highlands Governor Julie Soso has presented K150,000 to the Goroka campus of International Training Institute recently. The money was to subsidise Eastern Highlands students studying information technology and business management courses at the International Training Institute (ITI) Goroka campus opposite Mount Sion Inclusive Education Centre outside the town.

Safe Water
A recent report published by WaterAid states that PNG is the most expensive country in the world when it comes to water. According to the 2016 report, Papua New Guinea has 60 per cent of its population - which constitutes to 4.5 million people in Papua New Guinea who do not have access to safe water, the highest of all countries.

No Pressure on Miss PNG
PNG scored a first in the region last year when Abigail Havora was crowned Miss Pacific Islands. Tonight, Kellyanne Limbiye, 23-year-old from Papua New Guinea, will set out to seek a repeat of the feat at Tuanaimato during the grand finale of the Pageant. Ms. Limbiye said she has been preparing for the Pageant for some time now and she is ready. She says she is honoured and happy to be in Samoa and admits that Samoa is far more than what she expected.

Murder Suspect Released
A man from Jiwaka Province, John Kopi, has been released on a K2,000 District Court Bail in Minj, for attempted murder. Minj District Court freed the suspect after the court found out that the arresting officer, Senior Sergeant John Gurep and the Prosecutor failed to produce enough evidence to prosecute John Kopi.

The Executive Director for UN Women Dr. Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, who is also the UN Under Secretary General has arrived in PNG as part of her travels to mark the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence. This would be the Executive Director's first visit to the country.

Catholic Dioceses Celebrates 50
The Catholic Diocese of Lae in Morobe province has celebrated its golden anniversary in November. The historical celebration took place at St. Mary's Primary School grounds. The Apostolic Nuncio of PNG and the Solomon Islands, Archbishop Kurian Matthew Vayalunkal was the main celebrant and several PNG Bishops and priests concelebrated the Holy Eucharist.

World Vision Eye Care
Thanks to the efforts of Madang based World Vision office, partnering with the Fred Hollows Foundation, an institution providing quality eye care in the Asia, Africa, and the Pacific, a total of 1,745 men, women and children got their eyes checked and glasses issued to help their sights, right at their doorsteps, a first of its kind exercise in the province.

A senior Police officer in Lae says the RPNGC has encountered so many problems relating to command and control at the supervisory level due to the lack of knowledge and skills by frontline supervisors. MP's Dismissal Confirmed
The Post Courier reports that a three-man Supreme Court bench dismissed the appeal and discharged the stay order over the dismissal of the MP for North Fly, Boka Kondra. It's unlikely that the North Fly seat will have a by-election to fill the vacancy, as PNG's general elections are due by next June.

New Madang Lodge
Hundreds have witnessed the opening of the new Kikri Lodge owned by Simon Berum. He started off as coffee buyer, set up a beer store, operated PMV buses in Lae and built the MMS Lodge in Mt Hagen before establishing the Kekri Lodge in Madang.
