Manase Calls Out Polye
Candidate for the Kandep open seat Alfred Manase has raised concerns over the fact that sitting MP and Opposition leader Don Polye is yet to visit his constituencies in Kandep. Mr Manase believes Mr Polye is too afraid to front up to the people who are angered by his failure to deliver on promises and fulfil pledges that he had made during the previous election.

Hela Health Logo
An eight-year-old school girl's ability to connect the traditional culture of Hela with modern health care themes has landed her a K500 cheque from a logo competition. Grade 4 student, Jesmine Armitage, surprised many when her logo design was selected by the Hela Provincial Health Authority (HPHA) ahead of 24 other submissions.

James Chalmers High School
The University of PNG's Milne Bay Students Union (MBSU) in collaboration with the Milne Bay Province Community in Port Moresby are coming together to raise funds for a remote high school in the Milne Bay province. Money generated from fundraising efforts to be put towards assisting the teachers and students of James Chalmers Memorial High School (JCMHS) located in the Fife Bay area of the Milne Bay province.

Evacuated Islanders Facing Shortages
Over 800 people evacuated from the volcanic island of Manam are facing food shortages on the mainland. The islanders were evacuated after the eruption alert level for the Manam volcano was raised to stage three in late April.

Aussie Rules Results
After five rounds of footy the Lamana Dockers lead the Port Moresby competition. Accounting for Concept Koboni in Round 4 and Oilmin Kokofas in Round 5 their unbeaten run continues however the Cats trail them only by percentage as they defeated the Gereka Bombers and Concept Koboni in the two rounds.

Maybank Robbery
The six men found guilty of the 2013, K6 million, Maybank robbery have been sentenced to a total of 130 years in jail. They were convicted of conspiring and stealing. When handing down the sentence, Justice Salika said it was a serious crime where K5.9 million was stolen, over K1 million used and K4.4 million not recovered.

Taskforce Sweep
Former PNG prime minister and independent candidate for Moresby North-west, Sir Mekere Morauta, has undertaken to help restore the processes and machinery of good governance, transparency and accountability if elected in this election. Sir Mekere promised to do this by re-instating the Peter O'Neill government abolished investigative Task Force Sweep team and properly fund all state law enforcing agencies including the Police Fraud Squad, Ombudsman Commission, Office of the Auditor General and State Solicitor's office.

A Tale of Two Towns
East New Britain is the largest island in the New Guinea Islands and is a leader in terms of tourism in the country. Rabaul was the capital but that was moved to Kokopo, 30kms away, following the volcanic eruption in 1994 which devastated the colonial town and surrounding areas.

The name Okuk is making an appearance in the 2017 National Elections. Port Moresby Northeast seat hopeful Carl Okuk has been encouraged to follow in his father's footsteps. Young PNG Exhibits in Australia

Lae Police Toll Free Number
Police in Lae have introduced a toll free number for emergencies. Lae Metropolitan Superintendent, Anthony Wagambie Jnr, thanked Digicel for the partnership with the police to fight crime in Lae city. The number to call in emergencies is 7090 3300. The call will only be free of cost if called from a Digicel number.

The Prime Minister, Peter O'Neill, has said claims by a single opposition member that he would cancel APEC cannot be taken seriously. "Hosting an APEC meeting is a very effective way to promote tourism and culture in regional centres, as well as encourage skills transfer and local capacity development."

Lae Drug Trade
The main market places around Lae city in Morobe are becoming hot-spots for illegal drug trading, a magistrate says. Lae District Court Magistrate Pious Tapil said people have reported witnessing this illegal trade at markets from Nadzab Airport all the way to the Lae main market and other suburban markets.

Lae Papuan Compound
The Post Courier has reported a playing field for the Papuan Compound community in Lae is alleged to have been fraudulently attained by a known title holder. Long-time Community leader and resident of Papuan Compound John Rosso in the week expressed disappointment in the way the piece of land that has been the community's icon since the 1950s to have been allegedly claimed by a known company in collaboration with the department of lands and physical planning.

Greg Anderson has been replaced by FORMER University of PNG Vice-Chancellor Prof Albert Mellam as the executive director of the PNG Chamber of Mines and Petroleum. The council announced the appointment to replace Anderson who was at the helm of the resource industry association for 28 years.

Doctor Beaten By Police
A resident doctor at Port Moresby General Hospital Labour ward has been beaten by policemen. The doctor is now nursing serious injuries which will stop him from working at the Labour Ward. Senior doctors at Port Moresby General Hospital say the matter will not be taken lightly. It will be taken to the Police Commissioner for the matter to be addressed.

Femili PNG
Femili PNG has opened a new office in Lae, Morobe province. Newcrest made a generous donation of K200,000 to Femili PNG in March 2017 which was used to renovate the office space. Femili PNG is a local NGO based in Lae that runs a Case Management Centre (CMC) to assist survivors of family and sexual violence access the services they need.

Local Port Moresby Dairy
Agro Industry says an investment of US$40 million (K120 million) would not have been undertaken on the dairy farm outside Port Moresby if the company had not performed any due diligence. The farm is expected to start operations in October and will include both raw and processed milk.
