Morobe Education Reform

Speaking in Buang, Morobe Governor Ginson Saonu said the province has performed poorly in Education. According to him, past two decades have seen decline in national examination results. WFP Food Update

The World Food Programme (WFP) has airlifted life-saving, nutrient-dense biscuits from its UN Humanitarian Response Depot (UNHRD) in Dubai to PNG. With a cargo of more than 80 metric tons of the nutritious high energy biscuits, the plane carried enough food to feed approximately 60,000 earthquake-affected people.

GG Empowers Team PNG

Asasumba - meaning "Never Say Die" or "Never Give Up," from one of the main dialects in the Morobe province, was the main message to Team PNG from the PNG Governor General, Sir Bob Dadae. Sir Bob encouraged athletes to be confident in themselves and not be intimidated by others.

New PX Residential Complex

It has been claimed that Air Niugini's new residential complex at 7-Mile in Port Moresby poses a fire risk by one of the building contractors. However, in a brief interview, Air Niugini spokesperson, Dominic Kaumu refuted all claims that the building was not up to code.

Kaumu stated that a recent joint inspection of the building by the NCD Building Authority and PNG Fire service found the new residential complex to be up to code, having satisfied all necessary regulations.

Three Dead in Lae

Three members of an armed criminal gang are dead following a botched armed robbery recently in Lae. Another of the gang members is lucky to be alive and has been hospitalised at the Angau Memorial following a shoot-out with police.

RAH Donates Equipment

The Royal Adelaide Hospital has donated old equipment to put to good use in the PNG highlands with help from a Flinders University student. Decommissioned RAH equipment will help to cover shortfalls in PNG. Equipment ranging from ultrasounds to theatre and surgical goods will help in everything from childbirth to basic primary health care.

Ialibu Secondary Update

Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (HERST) Minister, Pila Niningi, has committed K20, 000 to investigate the cause of a fight at Ialibu Secondary School in the Southern Highlands province. A Grade 11 student from the Imbongu Electorate was killed during a recent fight. The fighting has stopped, but tension is still high at the school.

Another quake has struck off PNG but no there are reports of casualties. No one is injured," said Sylvia Ombul, night desk supervisor at the Kimbe Bay Hotel in the port town of Kimbe, about 140 km to the west of the quake. "Right now at the hotel all my guests are okay," Ombul added. She described the quake as "not really big".
