There were about 35 - 40 Unitech and TFTC secretaries and the invited guests attended. Our PNG Professional Secretaries Vice President, Mrs. Mea from POM flew over to join us. The invited guests were: Registrar and wife, Vice Chancellor and wife, Bursar and wife and Lae City Lord Mayor and wife. Unfortunately, Vice Chancellor and Bursar and their wives didn't turn up but sent their apologies.
Firstly our invited guests, Registrar (Allan Sako), Vice President of PNG Professional Secretaries Association (Mea Lou) and Lae City Lord Mayor (Toffamo Mionzing) gave their speeches. Mostly their speeches were based on encouragement and praise on our duties as secretaries for the best running of the offices.
After that we proceeded with our dinner - There was so much food, drink and desert that we could not finish them. Some ladies went for their second round and still there was enough for take-away for their children.
Some people had brought their own drinks but didn't have it coz there was lots of fruit punch for everyone to drink.
During the speeches and dinner, a Post Courier woman and our AV Unit Photographer were both taking photos. Maybe the photos will be placed in the Post Courier and our weekly newsletter.
The Lae City Lord Mayor announced that he had donated K1,000.00 toward the Unitech Secretaries Club and every one was so happy clapping their hands. Our president had already given K100.00 to the PNG Professional Secretaries Association Vice President, Mrs. Mea for our affiliation fee to PSA.
It was a very enjoyable evening for Unitech and TFTC secretaries and everyone hopes to be able to have the same celebration next year except it may be held at the Lae International Hotel.
The celebration dinner ended at about 10:30pm and everyone went home safely by bus.

The Bank of Papua New Guinea recently launched its website http://www.bankpng.gov.pg to coincide with the 27th anniversary of the launch of PNG's currency.
Bulolo
Bulolo International School, probably a relic of our colonial past but a school which had catered for many expatriate and national children over the 53 years of its existence, burnt to the ground last week. This was the work of arsonists and it will not be rebuilt due to the fact that most expat positions in Bulolo have been localised now. The real losers are the 40 PNG students who went to school there and were given a quality education that gave them a real advantage when they streamed back into the National system for secondary schooling.
Thanks to Donna for that article. I wish Donna good luck with attempt at becoming a politician. I am afraid as mentioned in a previous edition that the men far outnumber the women in PNG politics.
East New Britain
The East New Britain province is cashing in on the increased numbers of tourist coming direct from Tokyo on the new Air Niugini service. Tourists are not only coming by air but by ship. On May 11 it is expected that a ship with over 1600 tourists mainly from Australia and USA will be in the province to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the fall of Rabaul during the second world war. Up to 60 buses have been booked to transport the tourists to various locations around the province.
Tokua Airport
The Tokua airport, which serves the East New Britain province, was closed last week to the bigger Air Niugini aircraft due to tall grass covering the runway landing lights. Light aircraft were still able to land. Once the grass was cut flights were allowed to resume.
Air Niugini - Japan
The inaugural flight from Port Moresby to Tokyo carried four live Birds of Paradise and 12 tonnes of fresh Papua New Guinean tuna as well as a group of Motuan dancers in full traditional attire.
The dancers stole the show on arrival at Tokyo's Narita international airport with the waiting Japanese media going into a frenzy when the six dancers from Pari village in Port Moresby entered the terminal to the beat of the kundu drum.
Major Highway
The Poreporena Highway or pseudo freeway now has a set of traffic lights at the top so that heavy earthmoving equipment can cross from where they are gathering dirt to the other side of the road. Is this a case of special treatment or is Moresby finally getting safety conscious?
Bridge Program
The program to build bridges, worth an estimated K175 million, involves the supply of 116 state-of-the-art modular bridges to PNG over a two-year period. Up to eight bridges a month will be constructed around PNG. Funding for the bridges is repayable over a 10-year period with an interest rate of 1.45 percent after an initial grace period of three years.
Eastern Highlands Landslide
A teenage daughter and her mother were killed in a recent landslide in the remote Okapa region of the Eastern Highlands province. Landslides destroying food gardens are occurring in the area due to recent heavy rain.
Chinese Doctors
A two-year agreement has been signed by the Health Minister to allow a team of eight Chinese doctors to be live and work with their PNG colleagues at the Port Moresby General Hospital. The medical specialists will also train hospital staff and graduates from the School of Medicine.
The Chinese Government as well as paying the doctors' salaries and international travel expenses, will also send US40,000 worth of medical equipment and medicine to PNG for use on an annual basis. The PNG Government will provide accommodation, vehicles and other necessities for the Chinese doctors
Chinese Medicine
It is hoped that PNG will be able to make huge savings on the purchase of essential drugs such as drugs for malaria, tuberculosis, antibiotics and vaccines following the recent signing of an agreement between the governments of PNG and China.
The Government will be able to save 40 per cent on cost if the drugs are bought directly from the manufacturers rather than going through middlemen. The savings made will be used to purchase more medicine.

Ross Eastgate has written to advise that the piranha type (PAKU) fish were just a myth and their existence never proved.
Whatever happened to Isuzu Lu. Now that Grass Roots has made a come back will we see Lu again?
Australian Recovery
The government of Australia is sending a recovery team to PNG to search for and recover the remains of Australian soldiers from two villages on the Kokoda Track. The recovery mission will coincide with the 60th anniversary of the Kokoda campaign, during which more Australians died in six months of fighting that in any other campaign of war.
Civil Aviation
Heard a rumour the other day that the civil aviation authority in PNG employs over 1500 people with many of them based overseas. I do not know if this is true or not as it seems to be very excessive.
Human Rights Training
A training officer from the Bramshill police training college in the United Kingdom has conducted a two-week human rights training course for 14 police officers. The course focused on human rights, policing and the different police functions including leadership. The training cost the British government K53,000
Kutubu High School
Kutubu High School now has a new administration building, two dormitories and four teachers' houses courtesy of the Kutubu Project Tax Credit Scheme at a cost of K300,000.
South Pacific 800 metre Record
With the Commonwealth Games not too far away, PNG athlete Clement Abai, has set a new best time at the Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge in the United States recently. This is a new 800-metre record for an athlete from the South Pacific region. His time of one minute 48.29 seconds takes almost half a second off the previous best time by a South Pacific athlete.
Serial Killer
National Capital District police commander has denied rumours of a 'serial killer' being out on a killing spree in the city. The commander said that the murders that occurred in the capital recently were isolated incidents and were not the work of a serial killer.
Leadership Tribunal
The MP from Anglimp South - Wahgi has resigned from office rather than face a leadership tribunal. He will be contesting the forthcoming elections. The member for Bogia has done the same thing to avoid prosecution. If either of the two is re-elected they will have to face the existing charges.
Mount Hagen
It has been reported that another three children have died from measles at the Mount Hagen Hospital in the Western highlands province. The hospital is still in dire need of various drugs despite AusAID spending K3 million on supplies for Port Moresby and Mount Hagen hospitals recently.
Kundiawa
The Kundiawa General Hospital is facing similar shortages to Port Moresby and Mount Hagen. If drugs are not delivered soon then the hospital will have to reduce services to the public.
Jackson's Airport
The security of passengers at Jackson's Airport in Port Moresby is under question after a departing passenger was mugged inside the departure terminal. The Secretary for Civil Aviation has called for an urgent inquiry into the matter.
Artificial Limbs
A prosthetic centre has been opened at Nonga Base Hospital in the East New Britain province. The centre will help people by lowering the existing costs, which included having to travel to Lae - the nearest centre with a prosthetic centre.
Oro Province
The Governor of Oro (Northern) province has been convicted of misusing public funds. Sylvanus Siembo was found guilty recently and is being held in custody at Bomana jail just outside Port Moresby.
Church Workers Robbery
Church workers on their way to a religious meeting in the Highlands were held up and robbed. The workers lost all their belongings including watches, glasses and any money they had.
Political Parties
43 political parties have registered candidates for the coming elections. The elections will be held from the 15th of June to the 29th of June.
Night Buckets
Residents in parts of Madang town will soon have their buckets replaced by a K1 million septic tank system.
Science Expo
A science expo will be held in the National Capital District for secondary schools. The expo will be held on the 10th of May at the Port Moresby National High School.
Three Peaks
The annual Three Peaks Yacht Race was again held on the weekend. 10 Yachts competed in the race with QBE Primitive Man winning the Three Peaks trophy.
Our Bank
It would appear that the Bank of South Pacific is indeed "the same" as the former PNGBC but instead of being better some customers are complaining that the new bank is going backwards and fast. A recent overseas visitor to the PNGBC side of the new bank says that it would have been quicker to watch grass grow in the middle of the dry season.
Another regular visitor to the ANZ bank at Waigani has complained about similar speed when attending to simple queries. Enquiries, which would happen time and time again throughout a typical bank day, take on average one to two hours.
Kick Boxing
Stanley Nandex has retained his Kick Boxing title after fighting the British champion, Brian Lawrence at the Sir John Guise indoor stadium last weekend.
Lihir Shares
Once again shareholders in Lihir Gold have been told to wait a little bit longer for their dividend. The dividend payout has had to be deferred due to a new request by landowners for the mine to settle outstanding matters on debt servicing for the landowners. Landowners borrowed for their stake in the mine but have not been paid anything in return.
