Broncos Confirm Mead Signing
The Queensland Broncos have confirmed the club has signed David Mead for the 2017 NRL Season. The speedy outside back was born in PNG and has played nine Tests for the PNG Kumuls, as well as appearing at the 2008 and 2013 World Cups.

The Army in Scotland
Piper and Drummers from the PNG Defence Force pass off the square at Piping School. At a recent parade at the Army School of Bagpipe Music and Highland Drumming (ASBM&HD) drum majors, pipers, and drummers passed off the square at adjacent Redford Infantry Barracks, Edinburgh, in front of family and friends. The PNG soldiers have been at the Piping School to study either level 2 or level 3 stages of the piping and drumming courses.

Getaway Vehicle Crashes
A recent high speed attempt by criminals to escape the police has ended in a nasty accident with the driver of the stolen vehicle in serious condition at the Angau Memorial Hospital in Lae.

PNG Air Records Loss
PNG Air has recorded a K22.6 million loss before abnormal items and tax. The abnormal items included ATR induction costs of K2.31 million and over K18 million from the required accounting treatment of future maintenance reserve recoveries being lost as a result of the early termination of aircraft leases. This is notwithstanding that the early returns are expected to generate substantial future benefits for the company, well in excess of those abnormal costs.

Passport Power Rank
How does a passport from PNG rank in the world? In the individual category PNG comes in at 112 out of a total 199 countries ranked. The top of the list is Germany with Afghanistan on the bottom in 199th place.
In the Welcoming Countries Rank (WCR) for 2016 PNG ranks with Venezuela in 62nd spot. The WCR ranked countries by how many passports from other countries they accept visa-free, with visa on arrival or with eTA.

Air Niugini Sacks Pilots
The national airline, Air Niugini, has sacked eight pilots for stopping work as part of a political protest against the country's Prime Minister.
They are
Captain Joe Kumasi and
First Officer Boris Ageda (Boeing 767), Captain Ben Lopa and
First Officer Elijah Yuangi (Boeing 737), Captain Vince Tongia and
First Officer David Sekan (F100 and F70), and Captain Norman Daniel and

Air Niugini says it may be forced to withdraw from Sydney and downgrade its Brisbane flights from wide-body to narrow-body aircraft should the proposed new codeshare arrangements with Qantas not receive the approval of Australian regulators.

Mick Curtain Remembered
Hundreds of people have packed the St Joseph's Catholic Church in Port Moresby to remember the late Sir Michael (Mick) Curtain. Sir Mick, who spent the past 50 years in PNG, died in Townsville on the 11th of September at the age of 75.

Markham Road Primary
Lae's Markham Road Primary School head teacher, Sam Nalong, is urging the national government to increase the Tuition Fee Free education payments to K500 per student annually.
Nalong says, the current TFF per student is about K250.

Lae Fish Market
The Lae fish market is expected to be completed in three weeks, according to the contractor. Joe Tariga, of Artyc Ltd, the construction company that is working on the market, said because of heavy rain recently, work was delayed for three weeks.

BPNG Distribution Centre
The Bank of Papua New Guinea plans to have a new currency distribution facility built in Lae to take central banking closer to the people. Governor Loi Bakani said local firm L & A Constructions had been awarded the contract to construct the facility.

Road Project Closed
A dispute over access to the K7 million housing project at the Durand Farm in Port Moresby has caused the project to be halted. The Durand Farm project is part of the National Housing Corporation's plan to address the shortage of housing for public servants and residents in the city.

Rugby League Chaos
The Australian Prime Minister's Rugby League XIII team have smashed the Papua New Guinea team 58-0 in a game played in Port Moresby at the National Football Stadium formerly known as the Lloyd Robson Oval.
Greg Inglis lived up his top billing by bagging a double in 58-0 thumping of PNG and producing his famous "Goanna'' try celebration. But the locals made it perfectly clear Aussie PM's XIII skipper Inglis was their favourite - and the "Goanna'' celebration just before halftime sent the 15,000 fans into a frenzy.

Many people in PNG use a Lucas Mill to cut timber to suitable sizes for construction projects. Recently the company has had a win against a Chinese company producing an almost identical but not as safe product.

East Cape Road
Work has begun on the K89 million upgrade of East Cape Road in Milne Bay province. Work will include upgrades to 51 kilometres of the road benefiting an estimated 200,000 people. The first sod has been officially turned by local member for Alotau and Minister for National Planning & Monitoring, the Hon. Charles Abel.
The rehabilitation of the East Cape road is part of the World Bank's Road Maintenance and Rehabilitation Project II restoring key national roads across Papua New Guinea. The works are funded through a World Bank USD$126.5 million (PGK338 million) credit with additional co-financing from the Australian Government.

Kundiawa Hospital
The Sir Joseph Nombre Memorial General Hospital (SJNMH) in Kundiawa, Simbu province, has become the referral hospital for the Highlands region to Goroka General Hospital and Mt Hagen General Hospital being unable to function properly, says SJNMH CEO, Mathew Kaluvia.
